Antarctic Nail Ale: World's Most Expensive Beer

Naturally, beers are best drink ice cold but this particular beer to be introduced, is literally "ice cold".

The unique beer which was brewed at Edith Cowan University in Perth with actual Antarctic water could possibly be the purest, oldest water ever brewed to make a beer. The ice was collected from a large Antarctic iceberg by Nail owner - brewer John Stallwood's brother-in-law, Kevin McGinty, who is a member of Sea Shepherd's crew.

Recently tagged as the World's Most Expensive Beer, the first bottle of Antarctic Nail Ale was purchased by Elliot Syndicate for $800 during the Sea Shepherd auction at Fremantle, Western Australia. To top it off, Psychiatrist Dr Anthony Durrell (aka Dr Mood) of the "Mood School" purchaser of the bottle #2 got his for $1850. Only thirty bottles were produced.

The growing "beer addiction" for saving the whales has never been this short of amusing, knowing it's for a good cause. Proceeds went to the Sea Shepard, which fights to stop Japanese whaling ships killing whales in the Antarctic sanctuary.

Bidding For An Expensive Truffles

Truffles are best enjoyed when served over steaming buttered pasta, salad or fried eggs. Don't be confused, I am not talking about chocolate covered truffles. I'm referring to the mushroom kind of truffles that is visually unappealing and may not look like much, but white truffles like the one above are big business - in 2010, a pair of these white truffles sold for $330,000 at auction.

Frozen Haute: World's Most Expensive Dessert

Frozen Haute
Warning: This is not your average dessert. It may be a foodie indulging experience but definitely not comforting in the wallet. This Frozen Haute was tagged by Guinness as the world's most expensive dessert, priced at $25,000. This mouth watering extravagant dessert was made possible by Stephen Bruce, the owner of Manhattan restaurant Serendipity 3, and luxury jeweller Euphoria New York.

What makes this confection ultra special? It contains 14 of the most expensive and exotic cocoas from across the world, 0.2 ounces of edible 23-carat gold, and a side of La Madeline au Truffe (described as "the most extravagant chocolate in the world") from Knipschildt Chocolatier, which sells for $2,600 a pound.

If you wish to get a taste of Frozen Haute, it's good to know that you'll eat it with a gold spoon decorated with white- and chocolate-coloured diamonds and there's an 18-carat gold bracelet with one carat of white diamonds around the base - both of which you get to keep!

McDonald Sandwich: World's Most Expensive Sandwich

McDonald Sandwich
The McDonald sandwich - named after its creator chef Scott McDonald of London's Selfridges - is said to be the world's most expensive sandwich at $148 US dollars . The sarnie is made of Waygu beef which makes up the most of the filling, fresh lobe foie gras, black truffle mayonnaise, brie de meaux, rocket, red pepper and mustard confit and English plum tomatoes, all stuffed into 24-hour fermented sour dough bread. The wagyu beef is derived from pampered Japanese Kobe cattle - animals that live in luxurious conditions that are reflected in the meat's high price.

Civet Coffee is the World's Most Expensive Coffee

The most expensive coffee in the world which sells from US $100 to $600 per pound does not hail from Jamaica or Hawaii nor does it come from Starbucks, surprisingly the world's most expensive coffee comes from a cat poop!

As morbid as it sounds, yes it's true. But hey, it's no ordinary cat droppings. Civet cats, a weasel-like animal eats only the finest coffee berries using their keen sense of smell to select the choicest and ripest beans. It digests the soft outer part of the coffee cherry, but does not digest the inner beans and excretes them. After spending about a day and a half in the civet's digestive tract which apparently adds a unique flavor to the beans, removing the bitter flavor, and then beans are hand-collected from the jungle floor, washed, sun-dried, manually sorted, roasted and served.

Civet Coffee is also known as Kopi Luwak in Indonesia (you'll probably hear Jack Nicholson often boast of this coffee in the movie "Bucket List") and Alamid coffee in the Philippines where they are mainly produced.

Question now is, would you dare shell out $50 per cup for drinking this strange brew?
